Chile’s Stunning Lake District 5 Days – 4 Nights
Day 1, Temuco – Villarrica
Today at a pre arranged time, a driver will pick you up from the Temuco airport to take you to Flor del Lago.
“Flor del Lago”, meaning, “flower of the lake”, is a 3,000-hectare private estate situated on the shores of Lake Villarica in Chile’s beautiful lake district. Owned by the Wagner family for three generations, farming and forestry remain the principle businesses to this day. Its unique setting provides complete privacy with spectacular views of the lake and the active Villarica volcano.
The grandeur of the Edwardian-style home, built in 1936, is testimony to the success of this German-Austrian family. Surrounding the manor house are dramatically beautiful gardens that shelter many different horticultural collections with antique and prize specimens. The bonsai collection has been a passion of Gabriela Wagner for decades. A rare 270 hectare virgin rain forest with numerous trails permits a glimpse of what the region was like before the arrival of man.
Flor de Lago recently opened its doors to discerning guests offering outdoor activities such as horseback riding, walking, trekking and mountain biking while providing attentive service, excellent cuisine and comfortable rooms with magical views. The experience will be one of stepping back in time to enjoy a stay in an English manor house as the owners take guests in as family friends.
The estate is known for its fine horses. Most are well-trained polo ponies that are very easy to ride for less-experienced riders and great fun for the experienced ones. Comfortable Chilean saddles covered with soft sheepskins are used and the horses are accustomed to be neck reined.
Several nearby national parks allow guests to choose from a variety of guided hiking tours, from easy hikes in the Andean foothills to more strenuous climbs to the steamy crater of the Villarica volcano. During summer, December-March, a private beach is yours to enjoy or choose to tour around the lake in a motorboat. Fishing trips can be organized for the lakes or the nearby rivers; a trout stream even passes through the property.
In the 1950’s Ernesto Wagner introduced red deer. They have adapted very well to the Chilean climate multiplying to support a now wild population. During the rut in March, German or Austrian-style tower hunts are offered. Only gold medal trophy stags (according to the CIC* measurement) are harvested.
After freshen up, we will drive towards the Volcanic caves; Among helmets and torches, you will enter to the house of the volcanoes. Lava flows, eruptions and a chronology of all recorded activity of the Villarrica are presented in this place. This house also works as a control post for volcanic acitivity. You will learn about the various parts that form the volcano, the diverse minerals that compose it and the latest eruptions. Next you will drive back to Flor del Lago to enjoy cocktails and a gourmet cuisine with beatiful vistas from the Villarrica lake.
Day 2, Pucon
Today after you breakfast, you will enjoy a full day at the Villarrica National Park.
This 230-square-mile park, crisscrossed by hiking trails, sprawls eastward along Highway 199 to the border with Argentina. It encompasses a pair of imposing volcanoes: one that shares its name with the park and the lake, and Quetrupillán, which is smaller and harder to reach because it is along the park’s more isolated southern flank. Mount Villarrica was known to the Mapuches as Rucapillán, or the Devil’s Lair, and remains an active volcano. Its last major eruption occurred in 1971, sending a nine-mile flow of lava through forests and rivers. Plumes of smoke can be seen wafting from Rucapillán’s crater with some frequency. Locals say they worry about Mount Villarrica only when it is not letting off steam, because that means pressure for an eruption is building up inside.
Roble and Raulí tree species are found at lower elevations. Coihues occur in the wettest areas. At higher elevations, forests are dominated by the Araucarias.
The park’s forests provide habitat for wildlife such as Cougars, Chilla and Culpeo foxes, Pudúes, Coypus, Harris’s Hawks, Lesser Grisons, Molina’s Hog-nosed Skunks, and the rare Monitos del Monte. Enjoy a full day adventure at this beatiful park. Picknic lunch will be provided by your guide.
After this beatiful day at the National park, we will stop on aour wat to Flor del Lago at a famous Coffe & Tea store at Pucon and enjoy some nice pastries that are famous in this area.
Next we will return to Flor del Lago to relax. In the evening you will enjoy cockatils and dinner.

Day 3, Flor de Lago – Villarrica
Today, you will enjoy at Flor del Lago an unforgettable horseback riding experience through the “fundo” on the northern side of the Villarrica Lake, with breathtaking views of the lake and volcano. The riding tour begins at the stables, where you will have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the horses and refresh your riding skills if required. The paths they use are chosen to give you the best views of the magnificent landscape and most are manageable even for less experienced riders. A great Chilean style BBQ will be included once you have ended your ride.
Once lunch has concluded, head off towards the “Termas Geométricas”, natural thermal pools immersed in the native woods of the Villarrica National Park. It is the ideal activity to do after a pleasant horseback ride. The Geometric thermal pools are composed of more than sixty sources of pure hot thermal water, summing more than 15 liters per second that surge naturally at 176° Fahrenheit, making a total of 20 pools distributed between “Coigue” runways. Once an inaccessible stream in the middle of nowhere, now a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the warmth and soothing feeling of the thermal waters.
In the afternoon, we drive towards Flor del Lago to relax from this amazing day and enjoy cocktails and a delicious dinner.
