santiago catedralChances are if you fly into Chile your first stop will be Santiago.

Santiago is Chile’s capital city, and definitely worth a visit if you have some time between flights or if you´re planning to spend a few days in the area.

Home to nearly one third of Chile´s population, Santiago is a sprawling metropolis buzzing with taxis, cars, buses, people and noise. It is located in Chile’s Central Valley and is South America´s most modern metropolitan area, as well as the business and financial centre of Chile.

This half day tour is a great way to experience the city, perfect if you are killing some time at the airport or if you are planning to spend a bit longer here.  We will take you to a variety of places so you can experience Santiago´s diversity.

You will be taken to the handicraft village of Los Dominicos– one of the best artisan markets in South America, La Moneda Palace and Plaza de Armas, to some of Santiago´s most informative and interesting museums, and to  Bellavista- the bohemian part of the city.  This tour is an excellent way to orientate yourself when you first arrive in the country, and to experience the array of activities and places that Santiago has to offer.

Discovering Chile’s Capital Santiago City Tour | Half Day
At a pre-arranged time this morning, you will be met at your hotel by a Pionero Travel guide to escort you on a half day city tour of Santiago.
Your first visit will be to the handicraft village of Los Dominicos.  Here you will find an impressive variety of handicrafts including works by various indigenous groups from across the country.  The beautiful Colonial-style architecture of the center and its picturesque Andean backdrop make this visit one of a kind.  You will also have an opportunity to watch the craftsmen as they work with pottery, copper, stone, wood, wool and glass products.
Next, drive towards Santiago´s Central Market, a colorful conglomeration of fish and seafood, fruits, vegetables, and flowers housed in an exquisite 19th century wrought-iron building.
Continue down to the principal avenues of the Civic Center and the seat of government, the neoclassical La Moneda Palace, built during the 18th century.  Then visit the Plaza de Armas, Santiago’s main square, a picturesque square surrounded by the 18th century Catedral Metropolitana, the National Historical Museum, and the Central Post Office.  Leaving downtown, you will head towards the Parque Forestal, leading to the Fine Arts Museum and Bellavista, the bohemian artsy center of Santiago.
